The method was developed by Joseph Pilates. This Bodymind pioneer, born in 1880, was ahead of its time. He promoted full breathing, healthy lifestyle, balanced posture and control of the mind over the body. Pilates was inspired by yoga, calisthenics, antique sports and boxing.
The 'Mat' is the basis of his method. Pilates developed various apparatus such as the Cadillac, Barrel, Chair and Reformer supporting his method.
The 'Powerhouse' is in the heart of this method: organizing, strengthening and balancing the deep back muscles, abdominals and pelvic floor muscles. As a result, a stable muscular corset is built up.
Pilates exercises are performed in series of flowing movements in which both the mind and the whole body is involved. The emphasis is on the quality of the execution.
3dBody® Pilates concentrates on stretching of the long fascial connections, also called Anatomy Trains. The emphasis is more on the three-dimensional aspect of rotations and stretches than the more linear oriented classical Pilates repertoire.
• Active centering
• relaxed concentration
• coordination and control
• precision in execution
• conscious breathing • smooth motion
• length and alignment
During classical Pilates exercises gravity provides resistance.
The dynamic spring resistance gives tactile feedback and helps to move with precision.
The Barrel supports the natural curves of the spine while you are stretching.
Flexibility and strength for shoulders, hips and spine.
