Is walking a matter of course? We often think that we are good at it because we do it a lot. Walking, however, is a learned, often unconscious habit, shaped by the example of our parents and the compensations for the small and large scars and injuries that life brings. After the injury has healed we should consciously unlearn the compensations because for the body this has become 'the new normal'. These compensations are the cause of recurring pain and chronic injuries, often seemingly not related to the original injury.
Learning to walk with your whole body
In the intensive course 'A step forward' we take a closer look at our entire posture and movement pattern with the aim to a better understanding and balance by learning to move in a better way. For this we use i. a. the Flow-Motion-Model developped by Gary Ward
We mobilize and strengthen the joints from feet to head. We practice movement sequences that approach the natural walking pattern. We introduce the lost movements back into our movement repertoire. During the course, most of those movements will become more smooth and natural. We strengthen our 'core' connection and elongate the muscles deep in the body that support good posture and allow for flow and ease.
About a quarter of Western people have a sidebend of the big toe - hallux valgus. In addition to the genetic component, especially our footwear and the position of the back, pelvis and legs affect this painful condition. We wil do specific exercises to correct the position of the big toe and strengthen it, so that your balance improves and walking becomes easy again.
Also for you
Of course we walk during the lessons, so that you immediately integrate new movements. Does walking hurt and do you think you can not participate in the course? Do not worry too much about that. If necessary, we adjust the exercise. You want to move better aren't you? Come and take that step!

You would need less energy to walk, so you could use it for other things you want to do? You could walk with less or no pain in your feet, ankles, knees, hips and spine? How would that change how you feel during the day and how would that affect your body and life?
Two times a week
The way you walk is like a fingerprint - embedded in your muscles and nervous system. It has become an expression of your personality. Learning new better habits is not always easy. You get the best results when you exercise regularly and often practice the new movements you have learned in class. Experience shows that it is hard to make time for it when having a busy life. That is why an intensive course is effective, it keeps you focused and connected. There will be 6-week courses in the morning and a 6-week course in the evening.
Course duration is 12 lessons in 6 weeks, two times per week.
Wear comfortable clothes, socks with anti-slip soles.
Maximum 10 participants per course.
Class times and dates
6-week morning courses: The lessons are on Monday morning and Friday morning at 8.30 -9.30 h.
6-week evening courses: The lessons are on Monday evening and Thursday evening at 19.00 -20.00 h.
